High Efficiency Natural Gas Fueled Cogeneration System Combined with Steam Turbine
Winner
Nippon Shokubai Incorporated
Osaka Gas Corporation

This is the largest co-generation system, which consists of three units of 6,500 kW gas turbines and a 6,500 kW steam turbine.
Generally, gas turbines are used for power generation.
Exhaust gas from the gas turbines is input to the reheating boiler to generate steam.
According to the power demand, some of the produced steam is used at a 6,500 kW steam turbine for power generation.
The maximum output capacity is 26,000 kW in total.

Features of Equipment, Systems and Facilities
  • High efficiency
The combined system with gas and steam turbines achieved maximum power generation efficiency of about 40%. Overall efficiency reached about 80% by using exhaust gas reheating boilers.

  • Flexible system structure
The combined system with gas turbines with exhaust gas reheating boilers and a steam turbine can meet the fluctuations in the demand for power and steam.

  • Great energy savings and environmental contribution
Use of natural gas and introduction of a high efficient system achieved 15% of energy savings per year. Further, introducing of a lean-burn type gas turbine and exhaust gas reheating furnaces has reduced annual CO2 emission by 31% and annual NOx emission by about 28%.
