PV and Wind Powered Waste Water Treatment System at Mountain Lodge (Natsuzawa Mineral Spa)
Winner
Chino city, Nagano prefecture

Features of Equipment, Systems and Facilities

Most of mountain lodges, which don't have utility power, are causing serious environmental problems by polluting mountain streams with excreta and garbage discharged untreated.
Owing to the subsidies from Chino City, the Mountain Lodge "Natsuzawa Mineral Spa" introduced 4.9 kW PV power generation system and 2.1 kW wind power generation system.
Power generated is used for operating waste disposing tank for excreta and garbage, and lighting guidepost for visitors.

In the Mountain Lodge "Natsuzawa Mineral Spa" located at 2,060m above the ground in the Yatsugatake Ridge, the following new energy supplies were installed: 48 PV panels on the cottage roof, 28 panels on wall face not to be covered by snow, and 7 units of high efficiency 300W wind power generator on the roof.
The wind power units are to be removed during winter. In consideration of severe and variable mountain weather, storage batteries of 48V, 1,000Ah were installed in preparation for failure in PV and wind power supply.
Electric power derived from new energy is used for operating a combined disposal and treatment tank to process excreta and garbage even at - 25 °C.
The treatment tank is of self-consistent type without discharging waste, and processed water is used for lavatory.
