Condominium
complex equipped with grid connected photovoltaic power generation
system
<Advance 21 Kifune>
Advance 21 Kifune condominium complex consists
of four buildings, each containing eight apartments for a total of
32 apartments. Solar cell panels totaling 51 kW are installed on the
roofs of the four buildings to provide 3 kW of photovoltaic (PV) power
to 16 apartments, and 3 kW for lighting in the common area. This is
the first condominium complex equipped with a PV system as a standard
feature to supply multiple apartments. This application was highly
rated for its innovation, and the considerable effect it is expected
to have on the spread of PV power generation in apartment buildings.
Features of equipment, system and facilities
| • |
In designing this condominium complex, the
developers were aiming at a facility that existed in harmony
with the environment. |
| • |
In the 32-apartment complex, 16 apartments
and one common area are each supplied with power by a 3 kW
PV system as a standard feature. |
| • |
To reduce costs and expand expertise in building
medium- and high-rise residential facilities, the building
design office, PV equipment manufacturer, and the system design
and installation company worked together to develop a standard
construction method. |
|
Originality and economic efficiency |
| • |
After discussions with the power company,
it was decided to install 17 PV power generation systems in
one of the condominium buildings. |
| • |
Adopting of a building integrated inclined
base (15°) achieved a 50% saving in frame and base costs
(compared to the conventional system), and greater waterproof
reliability and maintenance efficiency. |
| • |
The building designer, building contractor,
and the PV system design and installation company sought to
reduce the construction time, make joint use of heavy machinery,
and clearly set out construction responsibilities through
close cooperation and consultation, and as a result, total
construction costs, including the PV frame costs, were successfully
reduced by 35%. |

Apartments in this environmentally friendly
condominium complex with PV systems installed as standard
equipment sold out very quickly. This has served as an outstanding
model, and as of November 2001, orders have been received
to install the PV system in 41 new and existing apartment
buildings, including those from other companies in the industry. |
