PV power
generation system for hip roofs
<Solar
cell modules for both gable and hip roofs, power conditioner with
graphic remote control, and string converter>
Sharp Corp.
Sharp raised module output by about 20% and reduced
module costs by increasing the size of the solar cells, and added
a triangular module for hip roofs. The company incorporated a booster
function in the converter to enable a broader range of module combinations,
making it possible to increase the number of solar cells that could
be installed on a roof. The system is also equipped with a power conditioner
which can give an hourly reading of the amount of power generated
as a standard feature. The system was highly rated for its potential
to promote PV systems in the increasingly popular hip-roofed homes.
Features of equipment, system and facilities
As the use of residential PV systems
expands, there is a growing need for designs that enable installation
on roofs that are more complex in shape, such as hip roofs, and
that can generate maximum power in a limited roof area. In the light
of such market trends, and to further promote the spread of residential
PV power generation, Sharp Corp. designed and commercialized a PV
power generation system for gable and hip roofs.

Solar cell modules for both gable and
hip roofs
(ND-145BC, ND-072BR/BL) |
Sharp improved the system design and installation
efficiency by adding to its product lineup triangular corner solar
cell modules for hip roofs with a 1/2 pitch.

Power conditioner with graphic remote
control
(JH-SO1, LO1, MO1) |
The power conditioner converts the direct current
(DC) power from solar cells to alternating current (AC). The display
panel shows the system power generation pattern graphically. This
graphical display of the day’s power output in hourly readings
gives a clear visual confirmation of how the system has operated,
even during the night when the system has stopped.

String converter (JH-X2B, X4B) |
A string is several solar cell modules connected
in a series. When solar cells are connected to a power conditioner,
they must be connected in a series of a set number of modules (standard
number of 9–12) to maintain a consistent voltage. This string
converter adjusts the voltage of strings with fewer number of modules
in a series to that of the standard number.
