Photovoltaic
Power Generation System at the Nakamiya Campus of Kansai Gaidai University
Kansai Gaidai University A photovoltaic power generation system is installed
as a translucent roof over the open space in the center of the student
services building. Functioning also as a sunshade and rain guard,
it provides a comfortable gathering space for students. With its magnetic
design, this system is regarded as a model installation and widespread
use of similar systems can be expected.
The campus is designed with a high degree of environmental consciousness
— rain/groundwater is used to supply water for campus plants
— underground heat is utilized to run campus air-conditioning
systems; making the Nakamiya campus a leading facility in terms of
energy conservation.
Features of Equipment, System and Facilities
•
Triangular modules are employed, instead of
the traditional square modules, to form a circular rooftop.
Furthermore, the solar cells are geometrically arranged to
provide adequate sunshine and shade in the open space.
•
Slim structural elements are used to produce
a transparent overhead vista. To avoid exposure, wires are
enclosed in the panel frames.
•
To ensure safety during maintenance, the top part
of system employs heavy tempered glass.
