Cell Cogeneration System Using Sewage Sludge Digestion Gas
Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.
This system consists of two 100 kW phosphoric
acid fuel cell units using, as fuel, the digestion gas generated in
the sludge treatment plant of Yamagata Municipal Water Purification
Center. This is the first system in Japan which uses the waste heat
of fuel cells as a heat source for process heating of a digestion
tank. The system is low in environmental load and high in availability
factor, and it contributes to the widespread use of similar systems.

Features of the system
 |
There are many digestion gas-burning
power plants that use engines. Further, several plants
use fuel cells. However, the present plant uses the
waste heat of fuel cells as a heat source for heating
the process of sewage treatment, for the first time
in Japan. Fuel cells do not accompany revolution or
burning when power is generated, being clean equipment,
and compared with conventional power generation equipment,
the plant can achieve high efficiency. Using digestion
gas as fuel, the fuel cells generate 200 kW, and achieve
the following environmental effects, since the plant
can reduce the purchase of electric power. |
